Established in 1596 by Augustinians, the church underwent multiple relocations before settling at its current location near Batangas Bay in 1692.
The church houses the Holy Cross of Bauan, a statue discovered by natives in 1595 that serves as the patron saint of the town.
The religious building, situated on Kapitan Ponso Street in Poblacion Bauan, conducts regular Catholic services under the administration of the Archdiocese of Lipa.
The structure maintains its 1772 belfry despite recent renovations that modified the traditional crown molding and three-window arrangement of the facade.
