Pińczów

Pińczów is a historic town located in the Nida River valley in the Świętokrzyskie region, built across limestone hills. Narrow streets lead to a central market square flanked by townhouses and historical structures that define its character.

The town began in the 12th century around a limestone quarry and grew into a proper settlement after a Gothic castle was built in 1300. This fortification helped establish it as a regional administrative center.

The town was a center of Protestant thought in the 16th century when a Calvinist Academy drew religious scholars from across the region. This heritage of religious discourse shaped how different communities coexisted and developed together in the town.

The town serves as the administrative center of Pińczów County and offers visitor services through its municipal offices. A narrow-gauge railway connection to the Holy Cross Mountains is accessible from this location.

The town preserves a restored synagogue that belonged to a Jewish community that lived here for generations. Along with the 18th-century Wielopolski Palace, these buildings tell the story of its diverse past.
