Roman Ruins of Estoi

The complex contains remains of a Roman villa with standing walls, courtyards, baths, and columns spread across multiple terraced levels near Faro.

The site began as a farmhouse in the first century, evolving into a luxurious villa during the third century with additional buildings and decorative elements.

The preserved mosaics at the villa display marine motifs, including fish and sea creatures, reflecting the Roman artistic traditions of the Algarve region.

The archaeological site opens Tuesday through Sunday from 9:30 to 12:30 and 14:00 to 17:00, with extended hours until 18:00 during summer months.

The villa features an advanced brick heating system under the floors of the bath complex, demonstrating Roman engineering capabilities in the Lusitania province.
