Estoi

Estoi is a rural village near Faro set among farmland and green countryside. The place is known for its palace with rooms decorated in multiple architectural styles and an archaeological site with ancient Roman remains.

The area was inhabited during Roman times, as shown by the archaeological remains at Milreu. Following the earthquake of 1755, the settlement was rebuilt and structures were repaired or remade.

The Palace of Estoi displays rooms with architectural elements from different periods, adorned with tiles that carry traditional Portuguese patterns. Visitors can see how spaces combine features from multiple eras into one structure.

The village is reachable by public transport and lies a short distance from Faro. Arriving early in the day gives visitors time to explore the main attractions at a relaxed pace.

Wood from old boats was incorporated into the interior of the church. This unusual use of maritime material reflects the resourcefulness of the builders.
