Church of São Miguel do Castelo

The medieval church features granite walls, a single rectangular nave, a chancel covered by tiled roofs, and narrow slit windows throughout the structure.

Written records first mention the Church of São Miguel do Castelo in 1216, with its consecration by Archbishop Silvestre Godinho taking place in 1239.

The granite floor contains numerous inscribed slabs that serve as tombstones for Portuguese knights, preserving their memory within the sacred space.

Visitors can access the church from Tuesday to Sunday between 9:30 AM to 12 PM and 2 PM to 5 PM, with free admission throughout the year.

The church houses a granite baptismal font with an iron gate decorated with fleur-de-lis patterns, connected to legends of King Afonso Henriques.
