Mercado Ferreira Borges

Mercado Ferreira Borges is a marketplace building in Ribeira with an iron frame, tall windows, and multiple levels. The open interior spaces allow different activities to happen at once, from dining to performances.

The structure was built in 1885 to replace the older Mercado da Ribeira and modernize commerce in the old city. Many merchants initially resisted moving to the new building.
