Casa do Infante

Casa do Infante is a museum in Porto's old harbor district that displays archaeological finds, ancient mosaic floors, and exhibition rooms spread across three levels. The building holds evidence from different periods in one location.

The building dates to the 14th century and first served as a royal customs house and mint. It was later transformed into a municipal archive and museum to preserve its history for future generations.

The building is named after a Portuguese prince and shows how important this place was for trade and seafaring. You can see everyday objects that tell the story of merchants and sailors who used this location.

The museum sits in the old town near the river and is easy to reach on foot. The stairs between floors are steep, so wear comfortable shoes and note that wheelchair access is limited.

Excavations beneath the building uncovered Roman structures from the 4th century, including baths and storage rooms. These discoveries reveal that this location has been inhabited and used since ancient times.
