Cișmigiu Gardens, Public park in central Bucharest, Romania
Cișmigiu Gardens is a public park in central Bucharest with an artificial lake and wide walking paths winding through the grounds. The space features planted flower beds, groves of trees, and open areas where people gather to sit and walk.
The gardens began development in 1847 when German landscape architect Wilhelm Meyer transformed a former fishing area and vineyard into structured grounds. This early design established the basic layout that remains recognizable today.
The Writers' Rotunda holds stone busts of major Romanian authors such as Mihai Eminescu and Ion Creanga. Visitors walking through can pause to connect with these literary figures and understand their place in the country's cultural memory.
The park has several entry points along Elisabeth Boulevard and Stirbei Voda Street for easy access. When weather warms up, boat rentals at the lake let visitors spend time on the water.
The name comes from Turkish and refers to a fountain administrator who lived on the grounds during the park's early years. This Ottoman connection reflects Bucharest's history during the period of Turkish influence.
