Lake Siriu

Lake Siriu is a large reservoir in Buzău County, Romania, formed by a dam that controls water flow from the Siriu River. The lake stretches across a narrow valley surrounded by forested hills and mountains, creating a calm water surface that reflects the natural landscape.

The dam at Lake Siriu was constructed in the 1980s and completed in the 1990s to store water and generate hydroelectric power for the region. The project required moving massive amounts of rock and earth to create a strong barrier, marking a significant engineering effort that transformed the local landscape.

The lake is easily accessible by car via well-maintained roads and offers pathways for walking along the shore and quiet spots to rest. Bring sturdy shoes and pack food with you, as there are no large restaurants nearby, and warmer months provide the most comfortable visit.

Large viaducts span across the lake, including the Giurca viaduct with a length of nearly 300 meters and pillars over 40 meters high, built to allow traffic to cross steep mountain terrain. These impressive bridge structures are a quiet reminder of engineering skill and stand as unexpected monuments to human ingenuity in the landscape.
