Clock Museum in Ploiești, Historical clock collection in Ploiești, Romania.
The Clock Museum in Ploiești houses an extensive collection of over one thousand timepieces spanning different eras. The exhibition displays sundials, sand clocks, table clocks, mantle clocks, and pocket watches across its halls.
Professor Nicolae Simache founded the museum in 1963, first displaying the collection in the Palace of Culture. The institution later moved to a late 19th-century building that still houses it today.
The collection features timepieces that once belonged to members of the royal family and prominent Romanian writers. These personal objects reveal how much the nation valued the art of measuring time.
The museum welcomes visitors from Tuesday through Sunday, allowing you to explore the exhibits at your own pace. Guided tours are available if you want someone to explain the pieces and their histories.
Two astronomical clocks from the 16th century, crafted by German clockmakers, rank among the oldest mechanical timepieces in the collection. These valuable pieces demonstrate the technical skill of Renaissance horologists.
