Palace of Culture in Ploiești, Cultural palace in Ploiești, Romania.
The Palace of Culture in Ploiești is a French neoclassical structure with two symmetrical wings and balanced proportions throughout. The building displays classical design features including columns and harmonious arrangement of its elements.
Construction started in 1906 and paused during World War I before resuming in 1924 under architect Toma T. Socolescu. The building opened to the public following its inauguration by King Carol II in 1933.
The building houses a library, natural sciences museum, and cultural center that locals visit regularly for exhibitions and events. These institutions shape the cultural activities and social gatherings that happen within the palace walls.
The main entrance is on the south side, accessed by a wide staircase flanked by large columns leading to the interior. Plan to spend time exploring the different sections and institutions housed within.
The ground floor features a large naturally lit hall formerly known as the Hall of Lost Steps, now used as the main exhibition space. This room is one of the most striking spaces in the building and draws visitors throughout the year.
