Vârful Toaca, Mountain summit in Ceahlău Massif, Romania
Vârful Toaca is a pyramid-shaped mountain rising to 1904 meters within the Ceahlău National Park in eastern Romania. It stands as a prominent peak in the massif, offering open views across the surrounding ranges.
The first trail from Durău Monastery to the summit was established in 1835, opening one of the earliest routes through the Ceahlău mountain system. This path has remained a key climbing route for visitors ever since.
The meteorological station at Toaca Peak serves as a research center for weather monitoring and maintains communication systems for the entire region.
Two main trails lead to the summit, one from Durău resort and another from Dochia cabin, taking around three hours to climb. The terrain is steady but requires proper footwear and water supplies.
Metal stairs lead visitors to the very summit, guiding the final ascent through an exposed section. Protected Edelweiss flowers grow among the rocks at this high altitude spot, creating a surprising encounter with rare alpine plants.
