Ljubostinja

Ljubostinja is an Orthodox monastery in Prnjavor, Serbia, featuring stone buildings beneath red tile roofs set among wooded hills. The complex includes a church, living quarters for nuns, and a walled courtyard that offers quiet and seclusion.

The foundation dates to the early 14th century, when Princess Milica commissioned the construction. After the battles at Kosovo and Marica, it became a refuge for widows of fallen warriors.

The church preserves writings by Nun Jefimija, a medieval poet whose verses count among the oldest Serbian literary records. Visitors can see how the site functioned as a center for learning and manuscript preservation over centuries.

The monastery opens during daylight hours and allows visitors to enter the church and courtyard. Respectful clothing is expected, as it remains an active religious site.

Nuns crafted embroidery with gold thread on liturgical textiles, including the burial shroud of Prince Lazar. This needlework required years of practice and fine manual skill.
