Mossovet Theatre, Theatre company in Moscow, Russia
Mossovet Theatre is a theatre company in Aquarium Garden on Bolshaya Sadovaya Street in Moscow, Russia, operating with two performance spaces. The main hall seats 894 people, while the second space is designed for smaller productions in front of 120 spectators.
Sergey Prokofiev founded the company in 1923 under the name Moscow Provincial Council of Trade Unions Theatre. Later it received the Order of Lenin and Red Banner of Labour for its contributions to Soviet cultural life.
The company presents works that draw from Russian prose classics as well as modern texts, offering different kinds of performances on each stage. The smaller hall allows audiences to experience productions that rely more on direct contact between performers and viewers.
Tickets can be purchased online and received electronically, making access easier for visitors from different parts of the city. The location near Mayakovskaya metro station ensures that the building is well connected by several public transport lines.
The second performance space is called Pod Kryshey, which means under the roof in Russian and refers to its location. Young directors often work there with actors from the main company to develop new approaches to staging.
