Sintashta

Sintashta is an ancient settlement fortified with walls made of earth and wood and featuring two entrance gates. Beyond the main living areas, burial grounds are scattered across the site with large mounds rising above the surrounding land.

The settlement dates to the Bronze Age and shows how Indo-Iranian peoples were transitioning toward settled life. Systematic research beginning in the early 1970s revealed early technologies that shaped the region.

The settlement was home to herders who mastered metalworking and created bronze objects with distinctive techniques. It reveals how people lived and what crafts they practiced during that era.

The site sits in open landscape and is best visited during warmer months when ditches and structures are clearly visible. Sturdy footwear and water are important, as the terrain becomes difficult to traverse after bad weather.

The burial grounds hold remains of the earliest known chariots in Eurasia, revealing how advanced transport technology had become. Horses were buried with specific ritual gestures that offer insight into the spiritual beliefs of that time.
