Cathedral of Christ the Saviour

The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour features Russian Revival architecture with traditional design elements across its 31-meter-wide red brick structure.

Construction began in 1995 when the cornerstone was laid, and President Boris Yeltsin placed soil from Moscow's cathedral at the site in 1996.

The lower temple contains the historical Memel iconostasis and maintains memorials for Russian soldiers from the Seven Years' War through World War II.

The cathedral contains two consecrated spaces: the upper church for regular services and the lower church dedicated to the Holy Face of Our Saviour.

Until 1985, Kaliningrad had no Orthodox churches, making this cathedral the first purpose-built Orthodox structure in the region's modern history.
