Asian Russia

Asian Russia is the vast region stretching from the Ural Mountains to the Pacific Ocean, covering Siberia and the Russian Far East. It spans multiple climate zones, ranging from arctic conditions in the north to more moderate environments in other areas.

From the 16th century onward, Russians gradually moved into this territory and established trading posts and military settlements. This slow expansion shaped how the region developed and was connected to western Russia over time.

More than 180 ethnic groups live across these vast lands, each speaking their own languages and following traditions rooted in their ancestral territories. You can see and hear these differences in the way communities shape their villages and daily routines.

The Trans-Siberian Railway links major cities throughout the region, helping transport goods and people across these enormous distances. Road conditions vary greatly depending on the season and location you are visiting.

Lake Baikal sits in these lands and holds a significant portion of the world's unfrozen freshwater. It ranks among the deepest lakes on the planet, reaching extraordinary depths below the surface.
