Beloselsky-Belozersky Palace, Palace at Nevsky Prospect, Saint Petersburg, Russia

The Beloselsky-Belozersky Palace sits at the corner of Nevsky Prospect and the Fontanka River, displaying neo-baroque architecture with ornate terracotta figures adorning its exterior. Inside, it contains richly decorated rooms with marble fireplaces, a grand staircase, and multiple halls used for concerts and events.

The palace was built between 1847 and 1848 by architect Andrei Stackenschneider on the site of a smaller house the Beloselskaya family had acquired in 1797. It reflects the expansion of grand family estates in Saint Petersburg during the 1800s.

The palace carries the names of two noble families who shaped its character over time, and it reflects how the city's elite once gathered in such grand spaces. Today visitors walk through rooms where St. Petersburg's upper classes celebrated and socialized.

The palace now functions as a cultural center with a concert hall that hosts regular performances and is easily reached from Nevsky Prospect. Note that most rooms are accessible only during events or scheduled guided tours.

The palace was a center of musical life in the 1800s, with famous composers like Ferenc Liszt and Anton Rubinstein performing in its halls. This musical tradition continues today through its use as a concert venue.
