Royev Ruchey Zoo, Zoo in Krasnoyarsk, Russia
Royev Ruchey Zoo is a large facility where animals live in enclosures designed to resemble their natural habitats. The grounds feature separate areas for different species and climate zones, allowing visitors to walk through varied landscapes.
This facility started in the late 1940s as a shelter for injured wildlife in the region. It received official zoo status when it was established within the Stolby Nature Reserve in 1961.
The zoo maintains membership in the Northern Zoos Association and joined the Eurasian Regional Association of Zoos and Aquariums in 2004.
The grounds are well laid out for walking, with clear paths connecting the different areas. Comfortable shoes are recommended since exploring the entire site takes several hours.
Some visitors come to observe how the animals interact and move through their designed environments without barriers blocking the view. These moments reveal behaviors people do not always see in smaller, more confined spaces.
