Borodinsky Bridge, Steel cantilever bridge over Moskva River in Moscow, Russia
Borodinsky Bridge is a steel cantilever structure spanning the Moskva River and connecting Dorogomilovo District with Moscow's central area. The bridge carries multiple traffic lanes in each direction and provides separate pedestrian paths along its length.
Built between 1911 and 1912, the structure was designed to commemorate a major military victory from the previous century. It replaced an older wooden crossing that had served the location since the late 1700s.
The grey granite obelisks at the entrance display names of soldiers from the 1812 war, transforming the bridge into a place of remembrance. This commemorative function shapes how locals view and use the structure today.
Both pedestrian paths offer clear views along the river and across to surrounding districts. The structure is accessible from both ends, with adequate space for foot traffic and cyclists moving through.
During a 2001 renovation, engineers lifted the entire structure by approximately 1.5 meters (5 feet) to allow taller river traffic to pass beneath. The original decorative stone elements were carefully preserved and repositioned as part of this major adjustment.
