Gremikha Naval Base

Gremikha Naval Base is a military installation on the Kola Peninsula featuring a natural waterway between the mainland and nearby islands. The facility includes extensive dock and maintenance areas designed to service submarines and naval vessels.

The base was established during the Soviet era as the Northern Fleet's easternmost naval facility. It operated as a critical supply and maintenance point for submarines until operations ceased in 1997.

Military personnel stationed at Gremikha resided in the nearby communities of Ostrovny and Yagernaya, forming specialized naval residential zones within the Arctic region.

Access is only possible by ship or helicopter due to the remote Arctic location. Winter storms frequently block entry to the facility.

The base benefits from an ice-free harbor that remains navigable year-round despite its Arctic location. This natural advantage allowed naval operations to continue even during harsh winter conditions.
