Izhevsk Zoo, Zoo in Izhevsk, Russia.
Izhevsk Zoo is a facility spread across multiple exhibition zones, housing around 700 animals from about 200 species in spacious enclosures designed to mimic their natural habitats with features like waterfalls. The layout allows visitors to see different animal groups in separate themed areas throughout the grounds.
Construction began in 2006 on the former Kirov Park site, with the facility opening to the public in 2008. Converting an established park into a zoo allowed the use of existing green space and established infrastructure.
The bronze wolf sculpture at the entrance reflects Udmurtia's regional identity and has become a natural gathering spot where visitors meet before exploring the grounds.
The zoo is open daily, with seasonal variations in operating hours to consider when planning your visit. Wear comfortable shoes since the grounds cover a substantial area and require considerable walking.
The zoo features specialized zones called White North and Far East where visitors can observe Amur tigers and polar bears in environments that replicate their natural ranges. These themed sections help showcase the specific needs and behaviors of each species in detail.
