Mansion of Zinaida Yusupova, Liteyny Prospekt
Mansion of Zinaida Yusupova, Liteyny Prospekt, Noble mansion on Liteyny Prospekt, Saint Petersburg, Russia
This two-story mansion on Liteyny Prospekt features Italian Renaissance architecture mixed with baroque details, a richly ornamented stone facade, and sculpted caryatids flanking the main entrance. The design and elaborate interior spaces demonstrate the wealth and taste of the family that once inhabited it.
The mansion was built between 1852 and 1858 as a private residence for Princess Zinaida Yusupova. Following the revolution, it served multiple institutions including an education center until eventually becoming part of a museum collection.
The rooms reflect aristocratic life through artistic details, and visitors can see halls that once hosted musical performances and displayed family portraits.
Access to the building is managed through the State Museum of Saint Isaac's Cathedral, allowing visitors to explore the preserved historical rooms. Plan adequate time to walk through the interiors without rushing.
The exterior walls blend sandstone from the nearby town of Gatchina with imported Bremen stone from Germany, creating an unusual mix of local and foreign materials. This choice reflects the international connections and wealth of the original owners.
