Malaya Bronnaya Theatre, Theatre company in Presnensky District, Moscow, Russia
The Malaya Bronnaya Theatre is a performance venue and theatre building located at Malaya Bronnaya Street 4 in the Presnensky District of Moscow, designed by a group of four architects in the early 20th century. The facade displays elements of neoclassicism and early Soviet architecture, while the interior includes several performance spaces and foyers.
The building opened in 1920 as a cultural space and served different artistic purposes during the first decades of the Soviet Union. The current theatre company settled here in 1946 under the direction of Sergey Mayorov and has shaped the program since then.
The building houses a main performance hall and several smaller rehearsal stages that also host experimental productions. The company works with contemporary Russian directors and often interprets classic plays through modern arrangements.
Access is through the main entrance directly from the street, and the building is about a ten-minute walk from several metro stations. Performances take place mostly in the evenings, and cloakrooms are located on the ground floor near the entrance.
The theatre belongs to the Golitsyns City Estate, a large aristocratic property from the 18th century. Its status as a regional cultural heritage site has protected the architectural features of the house for decades.
