Нероново

Neronovo is an estate in Kostroma with a two-story brick manor house surrounded by farm buildings and storage structures. The complex also includes a church featuring a five-tiered baroque iconostasis that completes the architectural composition.

The estate came under Cherevin family control in 1697 and remained in their hands until 1918. This extended period of ownership shaped the property's development and made it a center of regional rural life for over two centuries.

The estate served as the center of life for a wealthy family whose education was displayed through a substantial book collection. The furnishings and art inside reflected the owners' social standing and intellectual pursuits.

The site spreads across a large area and is best explored in good weather since much of it is outdoors. Plan to spend enough time to carefully view the various buildings and the church's baroque decoration.

The property once held a remarkable library of around 4000 volumes including a rare Slavonic Bible printed in 1581. This collection reveals the cultural aspirations of a rural family in Russia's heartland.
