Resurrection Church in Susanino

The Resurrection Church in Susanino features five domes and a bell tower, displaying traditional Russian Orthodox architecture from the late 17th century. The building showcases the characteristic design elements of religious construction from this period with its vertical forms and decorative details.

The church was completed in 1690 under the initiative of Peter Mikhailovich Saltykov and became an important religious site in the region. Comprehensive restoration work between 1977 and 1988 preserved the building's original form for future generations.

The interior holds an iconostasis created by master painters from Kineshma and decorative works added by Kostroma iconographers. These artworks shape the spiritual character of the worship space and reflect the craftsmanship of different Russian regions.

The building functions today as both an active place of worship and a museum presenting local history and connections to the Romanov family. Visitors can explore the interior and learn more about the regional significance of this site.

The building was immortalized in the famous painting 'The Rooks Have Arrived' by artist Aleksey Savrasov and gained national recognition through this artwork. This painting made the church and its surroundings a well-known subject in Russian art history.
