Substation "Vostochnaya", Power distribution facility in Leningrad Region, Russia
Substation Vostochnaya is a high-voltage power distribution facility in the Leningrad Region of Russia, operating at 330 kV. It connects several transmission lines within the regional electricity network.
The substation was built in the early 1980s as part of Soviet infrastructure designed to carry electricity across the border into Finland. In 2022, that cross-border transmission stopped entirely.
This electrical facility represents Russian engineering practices in power distribution, incorporating both domestic and international technical standards.
This is an active industrial site with no public access. Only authorized personnel are permitted on the grounds.
Before 2022, this facility was one of the few direct electrical links between the Russian and Nordic grids. The physical connection still exists, but it now carries no power.
