Holy Trinity Monastery is an Orthodox monastery in Tyumen surrounded by a kremlin-style fortified wall with a gate tower at its entrance. Inside the complex, the Troitsky Church with golden domes stands beside the Peter and Paul Church.
The monastery was founded in 1715 as a fortified garrison to protect trade routes across the region. It served as a vital link connecting Tyumen with other settlements through river networks.
The monastery blends Russian and Ukrainian architectural traditions, creating a visual style distinct to this Siberian region. You can notice these influences in how the buildings are decorated and arranged throughout the complex.
The monastery is located on Kommunisticheskaya Street, about a 30-minute walk northwest of Tyumen city center. The riverside promenade offers the most pleasant route for reaching the complex on foot.
Rare color photographs by Sergei Prokudin-Gorsky from 1912 capture the monastery as it appeared during his expedition to document Russian architectural monuments. These images offer a unique visual record of the complex from that historical moment.
