Spillings Hoard, Viking treasure site in Slite, Sweden
The Spillings Hoard contains two silver deposits weighing 67 kilograms and a bronze deposit of 20 kilograms discovered in a Viking farm field.
The silver collection, buried beneath floorboards during the 9th century, includes 14,295 coins originating primarily from the Abbasid Caliphate trade network.
The discovery demonstrates the economic connections between Viking society and distant Islamic territories through an extensive silver coin trading system.
Visitors can examine the complete collection of coins, silver objects, and bronze artifacts at the Gotlands Museum in Visby.
Archaeological analysis reveals the hoard belonged to a period when silver served as both currency and raw material for crafting ornaments.
