Bårby borg is an Iron Age fortress located near the small community of Bårby in Sweden. The settlement covers roughly 150 meters across and features a semicircular stone wall positioned along a natural limestone cliff edge.
The fortress was first built during the Migration Period in the 5th century and later reoccupied during medieval times. Two distinct phases of settlement mark the history of this location.
The objects found here show what mattered to people in different eras and how they lived their daily lives. Clothing items, eating utensils, and decorated pottery reveal personal stories of inhabitants.
The site is easily accessible with parking available directly adjacent to the fortress and an entrance marked near an information board. Visitors can walk around freely to examine the stone structures and the cliff features.
Excavations uncovered a gold coin of Byzantine Emperor Justinian from the period between 518 and 527 AD. This discovery reveals unexpected trade connections between this northern region and the Byzantine Empire.
