Hellekis säteri, Manor house in Götene Municipality, Sweden
Hellekis säteri is a stone manor house set on a large estate by the shore of Lake Vänern in Götene, surrounded by walnut trees, sweet chestnuts, and a prominent ginkgo tree. The grounds spread across park areas with different zones, including greenhouses and restaurant spaces.
The estate was first mentioned in 1473 as a nobleman's residence, but the stone structure visitors see today came from a major rebuild in 1791 under an architect's direction. This rebuilding shaped how the place looks now.
The rose garden displays plant varieties that have grown in this region for a long time, and the flower beds show how people here approach gardening. The layout gives a sense of horticultural tradition in the area.
The best way to arrive is by train to Råbäck station and then on to the grounds; the greenhouses and restaurant are open in the main season from May to September. Plan your visit for these months to see everything.
The walnut trees on the grounds are particularly notable because a botanist recorded them in his notes during the 1700s. They thrive here thanks to special soil conditions and bear fruit abundantly each year.
