Nasa silver mine, Silver mine on Nasa Mountain near Arjeplog, Sweden
The Nasa silver mine consists of old excavations, ruins, and a restored miner's cottage on Nasa Mountain near Arjeplog. The site sits at high elevation and reveals the physical traces of mining work spanning several centuries.
The mine operated in two periods: first from 1635 to 1659 and later from 1770 to 1810. A Norwegian military attack in 1659 destroyed the site and forced its closure for over a century.
Indigenous Sami people transported ore using reindeer-drawn sleds from the mine to distant smelting locations through the challenging northern terrain.
The site is located in a remote mountain area and requires proper hiking gear and preparation for harsh mountain conditions. Access is most feasible during warmer months when weather and trail conditions are more favorable.
The restored cottage from the late 1800s shows how miners actually lived in this isolated high-altitude location. Visitors can step inside and see the modest conditions under which workers endured the harsh environment.
