Inglinge hög, Iron Age burial ground in Ingelstad, Sweden

Inglinge hög is a burial ground featuring five mounds, two stone ships, and more than one hundred stone settings arranged across a large archaeological area. The site displays different types of stone constructions arranged throughout the landscape.

The site emerged around 600 to 700 AD as a burial place, with the main mound measuring roughly 37 meters across and 6 meters tall, likely for a regional king. Archaeological work confirms people used this location continuously through different time periods.

This site served as a gathering place where ancient communities convened for legal decisions and social matters. The location held deep meaning for the people who used it across multiple generations.

The site sits roughly 19 kilometers south of Växjö and welcomes visitors who want to explore the various mounds and stone formations. You can examine the decorative stone atop the main mound and walk through the entire grounds on foot.

Artifacts such as Viking Age brooches and Bronze Age weapons reveal that people used this place over many centuries. These layers of finds demonstrate the location held importance for multiple cultures.
