Krumperk Castle

Krumperk Castle is a Renaissance stronghold in Gorjuša near Domžale featuring a square footprint with corner towers typical of its era. The structure displays the architectural language of the 16th century with its balanced proportions and defensive design elements.

The noble Rabensberg family built the original structure in the 13th century, which the Rauber family completely reconstructed during the Renaissance period around 1580. The castle later served as a military sanatorium after World War II before being converted into residential apartments in the 1950s.

The grounds serve as home to an equestrian club that brings horses and riders to the surrounding meadows during the warmer months. The castle has become a center for horsemanship activities that shape how locals and visitors experience the landscape.

The castle sits near Ljubljana and remains easily accessible by car from the city center. Parking is available at the entrance, making a visit straightforward for those with transportation.

After World War II, the castle was repurposed as a health retreat for military officers seeking recovery. This transformation reveals how such historic buildings adapted their functions to serve new needs in the post-war era.
