Apponyi Palace, Rococo palace in Old Town core, Slovakia.
The Apponyi Palace is a Rococo house in Bratislava's Old Town that was built partly on top of older structures. The building has several levels with decorated interior rooms and also contains underground cellars that belong to earlier construction phases.
The palace was founded in the early 1760s when a family decided to remake an already existing older building. They kept some original parts, especially in the lower areas, and added new sections in the modern style of that time.
The residence once belonged to a wealthy family and still shows how the nobility lived in those times. In the preserved rooms, you can see how people furnished their homes and organized their daily lives.
The building is located in the Old Town and is easily reached on foot by walking through the narrow lanes. It is good to know that not all parts are accessible and there are some stairs, so comfortable shoes are recommended.
The underground cellar system preserves traces of buildings from medieval times that lie beneath the current house. Visitors can see old stone vaults and structures there that show how the Old Town was built layer by layer over time.
