Gombasek Cave, Underground cave system in Slovak Karst National Park, Slovakia.
Gombaseker Höhle is an underground passage system beneath limestone formations in the Slovak Karst region. The passages contain white stalactites, stalagmites, and thin tubular formations that measure only a few millimeters thick in some places.
Local cave explorers discovered the system in 1951, and shortly after a section was made accessible for visitors. The exploration helped scientists better understand underground karst processes.
The cave is part of a UNESCO World Heritage site recognizing the region's karst landscape and underground water systems. Visitors can observe how water has shaped rock over thousands of years.
Visitors walk through a marked pathway into the cave that is relatively level and easy to follow. It remains cool and damp year-round, so comfortable shoes and a light jacket are recommended.
The thin soda straw formations in this cave can grow up to 3 meters long while being barely thicker than a pencil. These fragile features develop very slowly and are particularly valuable for scientific study.
