The cylindrical tower of Slanec Castle rises from the hilltop in the Slanské vrchy Mountains, overlooking the surrounding valleys and hills.
Built in 1230, Slanec Castle functioned as a strategic fortification controlling salt stores before the Drugeth family expanded it in the 14th century.
The castle remains tell stories of medieval Slovak architecture through its preserved walls, central tower, and defensive structures from different periods.
The ruins are accessible through a 15-minute walk from Slanec village center, following a path through trees and a landscape park.
The central tower, known as Nebojsa, provides views across the region and stands as evidence of medieval military engineering techniques.
