Nagy-Milic, Volcanic mountain summit at Košice-okolie District, Hungary and Slovakia
Nagy-Milic is a volcanic mountain summit in the Zemplén Mountains straddling the Hungary-Slovakia border. The peak rises to 894 meters and dominates the landscape of this border region with its rocky slopes.
The mountain takes its name from a Slavic personal name derived from 'milъ', reflecting the long history of this border landscape. The volcanic formations were created through geological processes deep within the Carpathian range.
The National Blue Trail, crossing through the summit from the Hungarian side, represents a significant hiking route connecting multiple historical sites.
The best time for climbing is late summer and autumn when conditions are stable and visibility across the mountains remains clear. Several well-marked trails lead to the summit from the town of Gönc, with different routes available depending on fitness level and preferences.
The mountain is composed of andesite and rhyolite, volcanic rocks formed millions of years ago through intense geological activity. These rare mineral compositions make the geological structure of the peak particularly instructive for hikers and nature enthusiasts.
