Pálos kolostor, Gothic church ruins in Gönc, Hungary.

Palos Monastery is a church ruin in the Zemplen Mountains, displaying the basic structure of a medieval monastery with nave, sanctuary, and tower. The site sits at about 320 meters in elevation and shows the typical layout of a religious complex from that era.

Construction of the monastery began in the late 14th century under the Pauline Order, with seven altars consecrated in 1420. The site gradually declined during the Reformation period as religious upheaval swept through the region.

The monastery served as a center for the Pauline Order, whose monks dedicated themselves to preserving texts and teaching in the region. Visitors can still sense the presence of this religious community among the ruins today.

The ruins sit about 3 kilometers east of Gönc and are accessible by a marked hiking trail. Plan for roughly a 5-kilometer walk from town to reach the site on foot.

The original pointed-arch window from the main entrance was moved to the Hussite House in Gönc and remains there today. This piece of medieval craftsmanship reveals the artistic details that would have been lost when the monastery fell into ruin.
