Sitt er-Rum

Sitt er-Rum is an archaeological site in Aleppo Governorate that preserves remains of buildings from early Byzantine times. It features the ruins of a church with carefully worked stone details and residential structures alongside other buildings from that era.

The settlement developed during the Byzantine period as a functioning community with craftspeople and farmers living there. It was eventually abandoned and became part of what is known as the Dead Cities region.

The ruins reveal how people in an early Byzantine community organized their daily lives and built their homes. The stonework and building layouts visible today show the practical skills and craftsmanship that residents possessed.

The site sits on elevated terrain and requires comfortable walking shoes to explore the scattered ruins. Visitors should allow time to examine the various structures carefully and understand how the buildings relate to each other.

The site contains both a Byzantine church and an older Roman tomb standing near each other. This mix shows how different periods of history overlapped and coexisted in the same place.
