Ban Rai

Ban Rai is an administrative district in western Thailand covering approximately 3,600 square kilometers, making it the third largest in the country. The area is divided into 13 sub-districts and 134 villages, with two main administrative centers serving the local population.

The name comes from traditional agricultural settlements and translates to 'Farm Village', reflecting the region's farming heritage. This agricultural foundation shaped the district's structure and growth over time.

Local communities produce cotton textiles woven with silk threads in patterns passed down through generations, earning recognition as a premium OTOP product. This craft tradition remains visible in the workshops and markets throughout the region.

The district is quite large, so it helps to familiarize yourself with the layout of its sub-districts before visiting. Most visitors navigate more easily by focusing on the two main administrative centers, where essential services and facilities are located.

A large portion of the district includes the Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary, an area of global conservation importance. This protected zone is home to rare wildlife and draws nature enthusiasts from around the world.
