Kantang

Kantang is an administrative district at the mouth of the Trang River in Trang Province, extending across fourteen sub-districts. The area is shaped by its proximity to the sea and features a diverse settlement structure.

From 1893 to 1916, Kantang served as the provincial capital of Trang until authorities relocated it inland. The move happened because of repeated flooding in this coastal location.

The city pillar shrine of Trang, a sacred monument in Thai tradition, stands in the Khuan Thani area and is venerated by local people. This place reflects the spiritual roots that hold deep meaning for residents here.

When visiting, expect humid tropical conditions, especially during the rainy season. The flat topography makes exploring by bicycle or motorized vehicles easy.

The low elevation of about nine meters above sea level made this district ideal for fishing over many years. This proximity to the sea shapes the economy and life of people here even today.
