Klaeng

Klaeng is a district along Thailand's eastern coast in Rayong province, covering several hundred square kilometers of farmland and seaside settlements. The area divides into 15 sub-districts with around 146 villages, with the main administrative center in Mueang Klaeng near the Prasae River.

The district became strategically important during the Ayutthaya Kingdom period as a gathering place for military forces in ancient Siam. This position made it a key location within the wider regional network of that era.

The name Klaeng comes from the Chong language word Ka-laeng, referring to the walking catfish that inhabits local waters. This connection shows how the district's identity ties directly to what people find in the sea and use for their livelihoods.
