Wat Buppharam

Wat Buppharam, Buddhist temple in Chang Khlan, Thailand

Wat Buppharam is a temple near Thapae Gate that features a white spire topped with gold, along with several prayer buildings. The grounds include an ordination hall, two main prayer structures, and a dedicated teaching hall for Buddhist instruction.

The temple was founded in 1497 by King Mueang Kaeo and holds significance in the region's past. It later served as the starting point for a ritual ceremony connected to an effort to reclaim the city from foreign control.

The larger prayer hall displays intricate murals that tell Buddhist stories on its interior walls. These paintings have adorned the space for about two centuries and remain central to the spiritual setting.

The site is accessible by public bus, red shared taxis, or tuk-tuks and is open daily from early morning until evening. Visitors should be aware of the religious nature of the grounds and wear respectful clothing when entering the prayer halls.

The temple grounds contain an unexpected decoration: a small statue of a cartoon character eating noodles placed outside the main hall. This playful addition sits quietly among the sacred space, creating an amusing contrast for observant visitors.
