Keçiören

Keçiören is a metropolitan district north of Ankara spanning around 159 square kilometers at roughly 950 meters elevation. The Çubuk River runs through its central area, and the neighborhood has three state hospitals and seven private medical centers to serve residents.

The name comes from Kiçivirân, meaning small ruins, hinting at old settlements in the area. After 1950, the region transformed from a green zone into a major urban neighborhood.

The neighborhood enforces rules about business signs that require Turkish language on storefronts, with exceptions only for established brand names. This regulation shapes the look of streets and shows local values.

The area is well served by buses, minibuses, and metro lines that make getting around straightforward. Visitors should rely on public transportation to navigate this spread-out neighborhood.

The Keçiören cable car system stretches around 1,653 meters and is Turkey's longest urban cable car. This aerial line connects different elevation levels and gives residents and visitors an unusual way to see the area.
