Feza Gürsey Science Center, Science museum in Altınpark, Ankara, Turkey
The Feza Gürsey Science Center in Altınpark comprises 48 experimental stations and exhibition units designed to engage visitors in hands-on learning across various scientific fields. Visitors can participate in interactive demonstrations where they directly experience scientific phenomena and principles.
The facility opened in 1993 after Ankara officials visited the Ontario Science Centre in Toronto and established a collaborative project based on that model. This Canadian inspiration shaped how the Turkish center was designed from the start.
The center is named after Turkish physicist Feza Gürsey and draws school groups from across the country who come to explore scientific concepts firsthand. It serves as a learning hub where students can connect what they study in class with hands-on discovery.
The center is easy to navigate and visitors can try all stations without special preparation or prior knowledge. Groups should plan enough time to participate in several demonstrations rather than rushing through the experience.
Visitors can freeze their shadows on a phosphorescent wall and observe the effect briefly before it fades. The Van de Graaff generator lets them experience how static electricity makes their hair stand on end.
