Galata Mevlevihanesi

Galata Mevlevihanesi is a dervish lodge and museum in Istanbul that contains rooms with walnut floors, prayer niches, and Ottoman architectural details. The complex displays traditional crafts and historical musical instruments across its exhibition spaces.

The building was founded in 1491 and served as a spiritual center for Mevlevi dervishes for several centuries. After 1975 it was converted into a museum to preserve its architectural heritage.

The lodge takes its name from a renowned dervish master and displays traditional crafts including calligraphy and marbling art. Visitors can observe how these techniques have shaped local artistic expression over centuries.

The site is accessible to visitors on most weekdays and requires no special knowledge to understand the exhibitions. Comfortable shoes are recommended since exploring the various rooms and levels involves considerable walking.

The grounds contain historical burial sites where revered masters of the Mevlevi tradition are interred. These resting places offer visitors a quiet, contemplative corner within the museum complex.
