Olesko Castle, Medieval castle in Olesko, Ukraine

The castle stands on a 50-meter hilltop, featuring an oval structure surrounded by defensive walls, a moat, and dense marshlands.

Dating from 1390, the fortress changed ownership between Poland, Lithuania, and Hungary due to its position at the border of Volhynia and Lviv.

The castle museum displays an extensive collection of 16th-century Brussels tapestries, wooden sculptures, and medieval art from the region.

The castle opens Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 to 17:00 and weekends from 11:00 to 17:00, with guided tours available in multiple languages.

King Jan III Sobieski, who stopped the Ottoman Empire's expansion into Europe, was born in this castle during a storm in 1629.
