Pidhirtsi Castle Park

Pidhirtsi Castle Park is protected parkland surrounding a fortified castle in the Lviv region. The grounds sit 399 meters (1,310 feet) above sea level and offer views across the Styr River valley, with walking paths that connect the castle complex to surrounding natural areas.

The parkland was developed between 1635 and 1640 under Guillaume Le Vasseur de Beauplan's direction, featuring fortified walls and defensive bastions. This early period established the fortified structures that still characterize the site today.

The park displays Italian garden elements like formal terraces, fountains, and statues arranged in geometric patterns. Visitors can see how these design principles still structure the space and guide movement through the grounds.

The grounds are accessible to visitors year-round with walking paths through the natural landscape. Comfortable walking shoes are helpful since the terrain is uneven and you will move across different elevations.

The park's elevated position offered strategic advantages, allowing guards to watch approaching visitors from all directions. This defensive layout shows how security needs shaped the design of the entire grounds.
