Nevytsky Castle, Medieval castle ruins in Zakarpattia Oblast, Ukraine.
Nevytsky Castle is a ruin perched on a 122-meter (400-foot) volcanic hill near Kamyanytsya village. What remains visible today are sections of walls, four towers, and defensive structures that show the layout of the original stronghold.
The fortress first appeared in records in 1274 under Hungarian King Laszlo IV. The early 15th century saw major reconstruction work carried out under the supervision of the Drugeth family.
The ruin is deeply rooted in local folklore, with many stories surrounding noblewomen and princesses who sought shelter within these walls. These legends shape how people today understand the site and attract visitors curious about the human stories behind the stones.
The site offers free entry and sits about 12 kilometers (7 miles) north of Uzhhorod. The H13 highway connects this location to regional routes, making the visit straightforward.
At the base of the castle hill stands a volcanic tuff column known as Nevitsky Post, historically linked to fertility rituals. This stone formation is an overlooked trace of older spiritual beliefs that predates the castle itself.
